Toen we rondliepen in Eindhoven, hadden we zin in sushi. Het eerste sushi-restaurant dat we tegenkwamen, was SAKANA, dus daar gingen we naar binnen. Het smaakte goed! De toetjes waren niet alleen maar Japans, maar ook Nederlands en Indonesisch.
When walking around in Eindhoven, we wanted to eat some sushi. The first sushi restaurant we came across was SAKANA, so we entered that restaurant. It tasted good! The deserts were not only Japanese style, but also Dutch and Indonesian.
Op 1 minuut lopen vanaf het Eindhovense station Strijp-S zit Vershal Het Veem. De straat waar je de ingang kan vinden, heet “Torenallee”.
In deze grote hal bevinden zich allerlei restaurantjes en winkels waar je eten kan kopen, bijvoorbeeld thee, noten, pizza, burgers, kaas, vlees, brood, bier, etc.
At a 1-minute walking distance from the Strijp-S railway station in Eindhoven, you can find the food hall “Vershal Het Veem“. The street where you can find the entrance, is called “Torenallee”.
The food hall consists of a large hall filled with all kinds of small, special stores and restaurants. For example, you can buy tea, nuts, pizza, burgers, cheese, meat, bread, beer, etc.

Op 1 minuut lopen vanaf het Eindhovense station Strijp-S zit winkelcentrum “Urban Shopper“. Er staat bij het station geen bordje met de richting, dus vandaar de pijltjes op de foto’s. De straat heet “Torenallee”.
In deze grote hal bevinden zich allerlei kleine, speciale winkeltjes. Ook de kinderboekwinkel De Boekenberg heeft hier een vestiging. Verder vond ik het winkeltje “Re-creare” met kimono (en accessoires) en allerlei Japans servies e.d. ook heel erg leuk!

The shopping centre consists of a large hall filled with all kinds of small, special stores. The children’s book store De Boekenberg also has a small store here. I also liked “Re-creare” which sells kimono and accessories and all kinds of Japanese tableware!

De tassen met mijn ontwerp zijn gedrukt! Op zaterdag 17 december ging ik naar de Van Piere in Eindhoven om te kijken hoe ze zijn geworden 🙂 Ik kreeg zelf een tas gevuld met vijf boeken (plus nog wat extra tasjes), maar je kunt de tas bij de Van Piere kopen voor 4,95 euro.
The bags with my design have been printed! On December 17th, I went to the Van Piere bookshop to see what they looked like. I also received one of those bags filled with five books (including some extra bags), but you can buy one for yourself at the Van Piere as well (for 4.95 euros).
Op zaterdag 1 oktober ging ik naar de grootste boekwinkel in Eindhoven: de “Van Piere”. Daar waren die middag twee activiteiten: de Amerikaanse auteur Julie Kagawa kwam signeren, en er was de prijsuitreiking van de tassenontwerpwedstrijd! De Van Piere wil namelijk linnen tassen maken met hun nieuwe logo en voor de afbeelding hadden ze een ontwerpwedstrijd uitgeschreven. Ik had gewonnen, dus mijn tekening komt straks op de Van Piere-tassen! De tassen zijn er nu nog niet, maar zodra ik ‘m heb zal ik wel weer wat foto’s op deze blog zetten.
De rij voor Julie Kagawa was best wel lang, dus ik sloot pas na de prijsuitreiking aan in de rij. Ik heb zowel een handtekening voor mij als voor Nakita gevraagd (zij kon niet komen) en natuurlijk ook een foto met Julie Kagawa 🙂

On Saturday October 1st I went to the largest bookstore in Eindhoven: the “Van Piere”. There were two activities that day: American author Julie Kagawa held a signing session, and the results of Van Piere’s bag design contest were announced. Because the Van Piere is going to change their logo, they want to print new bags. I won, so my drawing will be on their linen bags! Of course the bags haven’t been printed yet, so I’ll upload photos when I have one.
Many people wanted their books signed, so I got into the line after the contest results were announced. I did get signatures and a photo with Julie Kagawa 🙂

Omdat Philips dit jaar 125 jaar bestaat, is het Evoluon weer even toegankelijk voor publiek (normaal is het een congrescentrum waar je niet zomaar in mag).
De tentoonstelling die ze nu in het Evoluon hielden, was vooral gericht op licht. Heel logisch natuurlijk, aangezien Philips was begonnen met gloeilampen.

Because Philips was founded 125 years ago, the Evoluon is opened for the public again for a while (normally you can’t enter, as it’s used as a conference center).
The exposition they now held in the Evoluon, was mostly focused on “light”. Which is quite logical, as Philips started by making light bulbs.

『音レーザー』:手を動いてレーザーの色が変わって、音が出る。面白い歌を作れた! “Geluidslaser”: Als je je hand bewoog, veranderde het licht van kleur, maar veranderde ook het geluid dat eruit kwam. Door verschillende bewegingen te maken met je hand kon je dus ook best wel leuke liedjes maken! “Sound laser”: By moving your hand, you could make the colour of the light change, but the sound that came out also changed. This way, you could create quite interesting songs!
色んな新しい物。下の写真で、３Dプリンターでチョコレートを入れた。クッキーでチョコレートのパターンをプリントした! Een aantal nieuwe producten. Op de onderste foto’s hadden ze Nutella in een 3D-printer gedaan en waren ze patronen op een koekje aan het printen! Some new products. 博覧会でも店で買える物があった: ノーオイルフライヤー、掃除機、おもちゃ、鉛筆など。 Producten die nu te koop zijn kon je ook bekijken op de tentoonstelling, zoals de Airfryer, stofzuigers, speelgoed en potloden. There were also some products on display that you can buy in stores now, like the Airfryer, vacuum cleaners, toys, and pencils.
In Eindhoven, op de Kleine Berg (dezelfde straat als de Kinderboekwinkel), zit ‘t Smitje. Het lijkt een bruidswinkel, maar dat is maar een klein gedeelte van de winkel. Het grootste gedeelte is gevuld met allerlei handwerkbenodigdheden, voor naaien, borduren, breien, etc. De dingen die je er kan kopen zijn bijvoorbeeld garen, knopen, ritsen, andere sluitingen, stoffen, kant, linten, etc.
Voor stoffen ga ik het liefst naar Utrecht of Helmond, maar voor de rest van de benodigdheden vind ik ‘t Smitje een hele fijne winkel!
In Eindhoven, at the street called Kleine Berg (the same street as the children’s book store), there’s a store called ‘t Smitje. From the outside it looks like a bridal shop, but that’s only a small part of the store. Most of it is filled with things you might need for sewing, embroidery, knitting, etc. For example yarn, buttons, zippers, fabrics, lace, ribbons, etc.
For fabrics I like to go to Utrecht or Helmond, but for the other things I need when making clothes, I like to go to ‘t Smitje!
Laatst was ik met mijn vader en zusje naar de rommelmarkt van Scouting Albert Schweitzer gegaan. Rommelmarkten van scoutings zijn altijd goed georganiseerd; de spullen liggen per categorie op de kramen. Bijvoorbeeld speelgoed, boeken, spellen, keukenspul, oude apparaten, meubels, kleding, schoenen, etc.
Aangezien het een rommelmarkt is, is het natuurlijk allemaal heel goedkoop (en kun je afdingen als je wil). De pan op de foto heb ik bijvoorbeeld voor 35 cent gekocht, en al het borduurgaren samen voor 2 euro.
Recently I went to a flea market together with my father and sister. At a flea market you can buy lots of cheap secondhand items, for example furniture, toys, books, kitchenware, old computers, clothing, shoes, games, etc.
For example, I bought the frying pan on the photo for 0.35 euros and the embroidery yarn for 2 euros.
Aangezien er al wat bloesem en bloemen in bloei stonden, ben ik afgelopen weekend naar het Stadswandelpark in Eindhoven gegaan om wat foto’s te maken. Helaas waren er toch niet zoveel bloemen te vinden. Wel is dit een park waar veel beelden in staan, dus daar heb ik wel een aantal foto’s van gemaakt!
As there were already some flowers in bloom, I went to the urban park in Eindhoven (called “Stadswandelpark”) to take photos. Unfortunately there weren’t as many flowers as I hoped. Still, it’s a nice park because it’s not just grass and trees, but also contains several statues, of which I also photographed several.
Met carnaval wordt er altijd heel veel bier gedronken. Ik drink zelf geen bier, maar wel thee! In de boekwinkel dronk ik rooibosthee uit een bierglas. En omdat ik als Matilda was verkleed, hebben we ook nog wat foto’s genomen bij de Roald Dahl boeken. Dit jaar is het namelijk Roald Dahl jaar (omdat Roald Dahl 100 jaar geleden was geboren). Daarom koos ik er ook voor om als Matilda de stad in te gaan met carnaval (de jurk heb ik zelfgemaakt). Natuurlijk ben ik ook weer even langs mijn favoriete boekwinkel gegaan, wat erg leuk was omdat er ook een meisje binnenkwam om Roald Dahl boeken te kopen! Haar moeder had ook een foto van ons samen gemaakt 🙂
People drink a lot of beer with carnival. I don’t drink beer myself, but I do drink tea! In the bookstore I drank rooibos tea from a beer glass. And because I was dressed as Matilda (I made the dress myself), we also took some photos in front of the Roald Dahl books, as this year is Roald Dahl year (because Roald Dahl was born 100 years ago). That’s why I chose to be Matilda during carnival. Of course I stopped by my favourite bookstore, which was a lot of fun because a little girl also came to the store to buy Roald Dahl books! We took a picture together as well 🙂

Dit jaar zag ik heel veel Sneeuwwitje, Anna en Elsa, warme “kigurumi pyama’s” (draken, beren, Pikachu, etc), bananen, en klederdracht van allerlei landen. 2) Muzikanten. 3) De politie werd aangehouden door een paar carnavalsvierders. 4) Bij het Stratumseind. 5) Richting de Catharinakerk. 6+7+8) Rondom de kerk. 9) Thunderbirds. 10) Het station van Eindhoven. 11) Binnenin het station.
