日本旅行：高取町／ Japanreis: het dorpje Takatori / Japan trip: Takatori village

飛鳥の次の駅は高取壷阪山：高取町の駅。この街は日本らしい街だと思った。
高皇産霊神社は駅の近くにある。
この後は関西空港からオランダへ帰ったから、来週から他のブログを書く。

高取 (Takatori)

Het station na Asuka heet Tsubosakayama: het station van het dorpje Takatori. Dit vond ik echt een typisch Japans dorpje!
In de buurt van het station ligt Takamimusubi-shintotempel.

Na Takatori gingen we naar Kansai Airport en vlogen we terug naar Nederland, dus vanaf volgende week komen er weer andere stukjes op deze weblog!

The station next to Asuka is called Tsubosakayama: the station of the small village Takatori. I thought this was a very “typical Japanese” village!
Close to the station there’s the Takamimusubi Shinto shrine.

After Takatori, we went to Kansai Airport and we flew back to the Netherlands, so from next week on I’ll write about other things again!

日本旅行：飛鳥／Japanreis: Asuka / Japan trip: Asuka

飛鳥に行ったら、自転車か車が良い。駅の前で、自転車レンタルがある。２００６年の夏休みに、自転車でも車でも飛鳥の色んな所を見に行った。
石舞台の写真は２００６年に撮った。オランダでも支石墓がある。

In de zomer van 2006 nam ik deze foto’s van “Ishibutai” in Asuka.
In the summer of 2006, I took these photos at “Ishibutai” in Asuka.

Als je naar Asuka gaat, wil je of met de auto gaan, of een fiets huren (dat kan aan de overkant van het station). In de zomervakantie van 2006 heb ik daar ook een fiets gehuurd. De foto’s van Ishibutai, het “hunebed“, zijn ook in de zomer van 2006 genomen.
Afgelopen zomer (2014) hebben we door het huidige Asuka gewandeld. We zagen onder andere een mooie brug met afbeeldingen van de Vier Goden (zoals ze in het Japans genoemd worden). Op de foto’s van links naar rechts: Genbu, Suzaku en Seiryuu.

When you visit Asuka, you want to go by car, or rent a bicycle (which you can do next to the station). In the summer holiday of 2006, I’ve rented a bicycle. The photos of Ishibutai, the “dolmen“, have also been taken in 2006,
Last summer (2014) we walked through Asuka village itself. Among other things, we saw a pretty bridge with images of the Four Gods (as they’re called in Japanese). On the photos from left to right: Genbu, Suzaku and Seiryuu.

日本旅行：なら燈花会／ Japanreis: Nara Kaarsenfestival / Japan trip: Nara Candle Event

毎年の8月に、奈良公園で沢山のろうそくと電気ろうそくがある：「なら燈花会」。道の隣は本物のろうそく、他のところで電気ろうそくもある。暗くなってから、お寺・神社に戻らなかった（もう行ったから)。最後には食べ物の売店があった道に歩いた。

Elk jaar in augustus worden er gedurende een aantal avonden heel veel kaarsen aangestoken in Nara-park: “Toukae“. Langs de paden stonden voornamelijk echte kaarsen, maar er waren ook veel plekken waar elektrische lichtjes hangen. We zijn in het donker niet meer teruggelopen naar de tempels (daar waren we overdag al geweest), maar nog wel door het straatje waar allemaal kraampjes met eten waren neergezet.

Every year in August there are a few nights in which a lot of candles are lighted in Nara park: “Toukae“. Along the roads in the park were mostly real candles, but there were also many places with electric lights. We didn’t walk back to the temples when it had gotten dark (we had been there during the day already), but we did walk along the street where they had placed a lot of food stalls.

日本旅行：春日大社／ Japanreis: Kasuga-taisha / Japan trip: Kasuga-taisha

東大寺の後、山の上の春日大社に歩いた。夏の日で登るのは暑かった！でも、とても綺麗なところだった。太陽が強かって影も良く見えた。
木の鳥居にもあった！

Na Toudai-tempel liepen we de berg op naar Kasuga-taisha (“taisha” betekent “grote Shinto-tempel”, een gewone Shinto-tempel heet “jinja”). Omdat het heel erg warm was, was het ook heel warm om die berg op te lopen! Maar het was boven wel erg mooi. De felle zon gaf wel leuke schaduweffecten (zie foto’s). Er stond ook een boom die ze in torii-vorm hadden laten groeien – staat ook op een foto hier op deze pagina.

After visiting Toudai temple, we walked up the mountain to Kasuga-taisha (“taisha” means “grand shrine”, a normal Shinto shrine is called “jinja”). Because it was very warm, it was also very warm walking up that mountain! But the pretty place at the top was worth it. The bright sun also made for some nice shadow effects (see photos). There was also a tree that had been grown in the shape of a torii, which is also on one of the photos on this page.

日本旅行：東大寺／ Japanreis: Toudai-tempel / Japan trip: Toudai temple

五條で住んでいたとき、何回も奈良公園に行った（色んな祭りなど）。この夏休みも、また奈良公園に行った。彼氏は始めて日本に来たから。
勿論、東大寺を見に行った。

Toen ik in Gojo woonde ben ik meerdere keren naar Nara-park gegaan (voor festivals etc). Ook deze zomervakantie bezochten we Nara-park (voor mijn vriend was het de eerste keer in Japan). Natuurlijk gingen we naar Toudai-tempel, waarin zich het grootste bronzen Boeddha-beeld ter wereld bevindt. In het park lopen ook heel veel herten los, die je kan voeren (er worden speciale hertenkoekjes verkocht, “shika-sembei”, die sommige toeristen blijkbaar zelf opeten…).

When I lived in Gojo, I visited Nara park multiple times (for example when there were festivals). This summer holiday, we also visited Nara park (it was the first time in Japan for my boyfriend). Of course we visited Toudai temple, where the largest bronze Buddha statue in the world is located. There are a lot of deers walking around in the park, which you can feed (they sell special cookies for the deer, “shika-sembei”, which some tourists apparently eat themselves…).

日本旅行：法隆寺／ Japanreis: Houryuu-tempel / Japan trip: Houryuu temple

7月29日、法隆寺に行った。３～４時間ぐらい法隆寺で歩いた!一つの建物の中の博物館に、色んな古いと綺麗なものがあった。

法隆寺の近くの沢山のレストランがある。一つのレストランでうどん（お昼ご飯）を食べた。
法隆寺を見た後、オランダ屋でジュースを飲んだ。メニューで見たことないジュースが書いてあった：flesh juice（フレッシュ・ジュース）。でも、fleshとfreshの意味が違う・・・「flesh juice」は「肉ジュース」の意味だった。勿論レストランにも伝えたけど、面白かった！前年の夏休みで見たから、もう新しいメニューがあると思う。
でも、とても美味しいジュースだった。

夕ご飯ははまずしの回転寿司で食べた。写真の右では私の皿（１４つ）、左は彼氏＋日本の両親の皿（3人！）。

Op 29 juli waren we naar de Houryuu-tempel gegaan, een heel groot Boeddhistisch tempelcomplex. We hebben er ongeveer 3 tot 4 uur rondgelopen denk ik. Er was ook een museum met allerlei oude (en mooie) dingen die met de tempel te maken hadden, zoals beelden.

In de buurt van Houryuu-ji zitten ook allemaal restaurantjes, waar we udon hebben gegeten voor de lunch (voordat we naar binnen gingen).
Na Houryuu-ji gingen we iets drinken (bij “Oranda-ya“, wat zoiets betekent als “Nederland-winkel”). In het menu daar stond “Flesh juice” i.p.v. “Fresh juice”, dus wij moesten keihard lachen. Toen gaf ik de vertaling en toen gingen de anderen (Japanners die het verschil niet zagen) ook keihard lachen. Ik heb het wel doorgegeven aan het restaurant, dus waarschijnlijk hebben ze ondertussen een nieuw menu gedrukt. Maar het sap was wel erg lekker!

‘s Avonds hebben we gegeten in een sushi-restaurant (van de keten “Hamazushi“) waar, net als in dit restaurant in Tokyo, de bordjes met sushi op een lopende band langskwamen. In dit restaurant hingen er aanraakschermen bij de tafels waarop je specifieke dingen kon bestellen.

On July 29th, 2014, we went to Houryuu temple, a very large Buddhist temple complex. I think we walked around there for 3 to 4 hours. One of the buildings contained a museum with all kinds of old (and pretty) things that have to do with the temple, like statues.

Around Houryuu-ji there are also a lot of small restaurants, where we ate udon for lunch (before we entered the temple complex).
After visiting Houryuu-ji we went to drink something (at “Oranda-ya“, meaning something like　”Netherlands shop”). The menu there contained “Flesh juice” instead of “Fresh juice”, so when we saw that, we laughed out loud. When I gave the translation to the others (Japanese people who didn’t see the difference), they also had to laugh. I did tell the restaurant, so they have probably printed a new menu by now. But the juice was delicious!

We ate dinner in a conveyor belt sushi restaurant (from the sushi restaurant chain “Hamazushi“). In this restaurant, there were touchscreens on which you could order specific sushi.

日本旅行：信貴山と朝護孫子寺／ Japanreis: de Shigi-berg en Chogosonshi-tempel/ Japan trip: Shigi Mountain and Chogosonshi temple

信貴山でバーベキュー。

信貴山に行った8月の日にはずっと雨が降っていたから、そんなに熱くなかった。
信貴山に、バーベキューが出来るところがある。バーベキューの上には屋根があるから、雨の日でも出来た！
持ってきた食べ物はお肉、エビ、ソーセージ、いか、玉ねぎ、ピーマン、緑のゴーヤ、そしてキャベツ。
3時ごろ（バーベキューはお昼ご飯だった）、朝護孫子寺に行った。ちょっと大きいから、1時間以上あそこで歩いた。
後で朝護孫子寺の小さなレストラン皆と一緒に飲み物を買った。私は抹茶を飲んだ（小豆のお菓子も貰った）。茶筅で混ぜた抹茶だって美味しかった！

朝護孫子寺　(Chogosonshi-ji)

Omdat het op de dag dat we naar de Shigi-berg gingen de hele dag regende, was het ook niet zo heet als op zonnige dagen in augustus.
Op deze berg in het noorden van de prefectuur Nara, waren er plaatsen waar je overdekt kon barbequen. Goed te doen als het regent dus! We hadden vlees, garnalen, worstjes (soort knakworstjes), ika (pijlstaartinktvis), ui, paprika, groene gouya, en kool (witte kool) meegenomen.
Rond 3 uur ‘s middags (de barbeque was dus lunch) vertrokken we weer en stopten we bij een beroemde Boeddhistische tempel op de berg: Chogosonhi-tempel (zie de Japanse en Franse Wikipedia-pagina’s voor wat foto’s en eventueel tekst, en deze Engelse pagina voor nog wat meer tekst). Het was best wel een groot terrein, dus we hebben er minstens een uur rondgelopen. Aan het eind gingen we wat drinken in het restaurantje op het tempelterrein. Ik koos daar voor de matcha: echte matcha, geklopt met een “chasen” (theeklopper van bamboe), en een snoepje van suiker en azuki-bonen.

朝護孫子寺 (Chogosonshi temple)

Because it rained the entire day when we went to Shigi Mountain, it also wasn’t as hot as on sunny days in August.
On this mountain in the North of Nara prefecture, there were places where you could hold a barbeque. The barbeque places were covered with a roof, so it wasn’t a problem that it was raining. We had brought meat, shrimps, sausages (which looked a bit like Knackwurst, ika (squid), onion, bell pepper, green gouya, and (white) cabbage.
Around 3 PM (the barbeque had been lunch) we left again and we stopped at a famous Buddhist temple on the mountain: Chogosonhi temple (see the Japanese and French Wikipedia pages for some photos and some text, and this English page for more text). The temple grounds were quite big, so we spent at least an hour there. At the end we stopped for a drink at the little restaurant on the temple grounds. I chose matcha: real matcha whisked with a bamboo whisk (“chasen”), a sweet made of sugar and azuki beans.

日本旅行：五條と吉野川／ Japanreis: Gojo en de Yoshino-rivier / Japan trip: Gojo and the Yoshino river

先週、五條新町について書いた。勿論、五條の他のところにも歩いていた。
私が五條に住んでいたときから知っている女性も出会った!
この夏休みに撮った写真は、２００３年に撮った写真とちょっと同じだった（畑の写真は違うところで撮った）。
下の豆腐の写真は、伊勢屋で撮った（伊勢屋の他の写真）。とっても美味しかった！写真の豆腐の味は黒ごま、普通、ゆず、かぼちゃ、そして豆乳（普通の豆腐の味）。

Vorige week schreef ik over Gojo Shinmachi. Natuurlijk zijn we ook door de rest van Gojo gaan wandelen. Ik kwam zelfs een vrouw tegen die mij herkende van toen ik nog in Gojo woonde, superleuk!
Ik heb een paar dezelfde soort foto’s genomen als in 2003 (het is trouwens wel een ander rijstveld).
De tofu-foto’s linksonder zijn gemaakt in het tofuwinkeltje “Ise-ya (zie hier voor meer foto’s). De tofu daar was superlekker! De tofu-smaken op de foto zijn: zwarte sesam, gewoon, yuzu en pompoen. In de beker zat tofumelk (smaakte naar gewone tofu).

Last week I wrote about Gojo Shinmachi. Of course we also walked through the rest of Gojo. I even met a woman who recognized me from when I lived in Gojo, which was nice!
I also took a few photos similar to photos I had taken in 2003 (though it is a different rice field).
The tofu photos on the bottom-left photo have been taken in the tofu shop “Ise-ya (see also here for more photos). The tofu there tasted very good! The different kinds of tofu on the photo are: black sesame, normal, yuzu and pumpkin. There was tofu milk in the cup, which tasted like normal tofu.

誰もいない櫻井寺にも見に行った。
We bezochten ook de Boeddhistische Sakurai-tempel in het centrum van Gojo (je loopt er zo langs in de hoofdstraat), waar ook helemaal niemand was verder.
We also visited the Buddhist Sakurai temple in the center of Gojo (you walk past it in the main street), where no other people were either.

吉野川は11年間にあまり違いがないと思う。今のカメラは前のカメラよりも良い・・・
Ik heb ook een paar oude foto’s van de Yoshino-rivier erbij gezet. Niet zo veel verschil, behalve dat ik nu een betere camera heb…
I also added a few photos I took of Yoshino river in 2003. Not a lot of difference, except that I have a better camera now…

日本旅行：五條新町 / Japanreis: Gojo Shinmachi / Japan trip: Gojo Shinmachi

吉野川の隣に「五條新町」があるけど、「新」町は一番古い・・・新町に、江戸時代の家がある。
五條に住んでいたとき、新町の祭に行った。今回の新町に行ったとき、誰もいなかった（雨の日だから、皆は家の中か仕事にいた）。
新町に入って大雨が降り出したから、歯医者の屋根の下に待った。待つときには色んな写真を撮った。
雨が終わってから、吉野川に歩いた。来週の土曜日、このウェブログに五條と吉野川のことが読める！

De oudste wijk van het dorp Gojo heet “Shin-machi”, oftewel “Nieuw dorp”. Shinmachi is nu helemaal omringd door moderne wegen en huizen, maar Shinmachi zelf bestaat nog uit huizen uit de Edo-periode, en ook het oudste houten huis staat daar.
Net toen we Shinmachi binnenliepen, begon het te regenen. We wachtten onder een afdakje van het huis van een tandarts tot de grootste bui (met donder en bliksem) over was, maar in de tussentijd kon ik nog wel een paar foto’s maken. Ik ken Shinmachi vooral van de festivals, waar ik heenging toen ik in Gojo woonde, maar nu was er helemaal niemand op straat.
Shinmachi ligt ook direct naast de Yoshino-rivier (“Yoshino-gawa”), dus nadat we Shinmachi hadden bekeken, liepen we ook nog een eindje langs Yoshino-gawa. Volgende week zaterdag schrijf ik een stukje over Gojo en Yoshino-gawa op deze weblog!

The oldest part of the village of Gojo is called “Shin-machi”, meaning “New villlage”. Shinmachi is now surrounded entirely by modern streets and houses, but Shinmachi itself still consists of houses from the Edo period, and the oldest wooden house is also located in Shinmachi.
Just as we walked into Shinmachi, it started to rain. We waited below the roof of a dentist’s house until most of the rain (and thunder and lightning) had passed, but in the meantime I could still take a few photos. I mostly know Shinmachi from the festivals, which I went to when I lived in Gojo, but now there was no-one outside on the streets.
Shinmachi is also located directly next to the Yoshino river (“Yoshino-gawa”), so after we had walked around Shinmachi, we also walked along the river for a bit. Next Saturday, I’ll write about Gojo and Yoshino-gawa.
