日本旅行：出島／Japanreis: Dejima / Japan trip: Dejima

長崎に行ったとき、勿論出島にも行った！
人工島の出島で、1641年から1859年まで日本はオランダと貿易した。だから、長崎で色んなオランダのことがある。例えば道とマンホールの蓋。

Bij een bezoek aan Nagasaki mag Dejima natuurlijk niet ontbreken!
Dejima is een kunstmatig, klein eiland waar zich van 1641 tot 1859 een Nederlandse handelspost bevond. Het enige contact tussen Japan en de rest van de wereld verliep toen via de Nederlanders op Dejima.
Dat is ook de reden dat er zo ontzettend veel Nederlandse dingen te vinden zijn in Nagasaki, zoals straten en putdeksels.

When visiting Nagasaki, of course we also paid a visit to Dejima!
Dejima is a small, artificial island which
contained a Dutch trading post from 1641 to 1859. The only contact between Japan and the rest of the world went through Dejima.
That’s also the reason why there are so many Dutch things in Nagasaki, like streets and manhole covers.

出島で、過去の家が再建された。天秤量りは砂糖などの重さを計るために使った。
Dejima stond vol met gereconstrueerde huizen. De grote weegschaal werd gebruikt om o.a. suiker te wegen.
There were a lot of reconstructed buildings on Dejima. The large balance was used to weigh things like sugar.

沢山のものが残った（皿、コインなど）。
Er waren best wel veel objecten te zien, bijvoorbeeld borden en muntjes.
There were many items on display, for examples plates and coins.

In de tuin groeiden ook komkommers (rechtsboven).
In the garden, they also grew cucumbers (see photo on the top-right).

また色んな家、そしてオランダ東インド会社のカノン砲。

日本旅行：長崎の神社／Japanreis: Tempels in Nagasaki / Japan trip: Shrines in Nagasaki

ホステルの南に、色んな神社があった（地図で見える）。
Ten zuiden van ons hostel lag een park met een groot aantal tempels (zie ook de kaart op de site van het hostel).
South of our hostel there was a park with a large number of shrines (see also the map on the hostel’s website).

東京と宮島の同じように、長崎でも神社に見に行った。 長崎の東にある諏訪神社にも行った。この日（7月20日）に、ここで小さな祭りがあった！でも、祭りの名前が知らない。車の上に船があって、神社の前の走った。階段の近くで危なそう！ ホステルに帰ったとき、同じ船がホステルの近くの道に走った・・！

Net als in Tokyo en Miyajima, hebben we in Nagasaki ook tempels bezocht. We hebben ook de Suwa-schrijn (een grote Shinto-tempel) bezocht in het oosten van Nagasaki. Heel toevallig was daar een klein festival bezig, maar ik weet niet hoe dat festival precies heet. Een boot op wielen werd heen en weer gereden, vlakbij de grote trap..! Toen we later bij ons hostel terugwaren, reed diezelfde boot ook nog door de straat bij ons hostel!

Just as in Tokyo and Miyajima, we also visited shrines in Nagasaki. We also visited Suwa Shrine (a large Shinto shrine) in the East of Nagasaki. We stumbled upon a small festival there (on July 20th), but I don’t know what it was called. There were people pulling a boat on wheels back and forth, close to the large stairways..! When we arrived at our hostel later that day, the same boat was passing through the streets close to the hostel!

この前は長崎のホステルと美味しいぶたまんについて書いた。
長崎はそんなに大きくない。沢山の面白いお店とレストランがあった。大きなダイソウもあった。長崎でも回転寿司に行ったけど、写真撮らなかった。

Eerder schreef ik over ons hostel in Nagasaki en een locatie om lekkere broodjes te halen.

Nagasaki is een gezellige kleine stad waar ze erg veel leuke winkeltjes hadden! Het was ook niet superduur. Er was ook een grote 100-yen winkel van meerdere verdiepingen (100 yen plus belasting, dus 108 yen – in Japan staan de prijzen vaak zonder BTW op de prijskaartjes).
Tussen de winkels door zaten ook allerlei restaurantjes, maar daar heb ik verder geen foto’s van gemaakt. We waren bijvoorbeeld weer naar een sushi-restaurant geweest met bordjes op een lopende band, zoals ook in Tokyo.

Before, I wrote about our hostel in Nagasaki and a place to buy delicious buns.

Nagasaki is a nice, not-so-large town where they have a lot of nice shops! It also wasn’t overly expensive. There was also a large 100-yen store consisting of multiple floors (100 yen plus tax, so 108 yen – in Japan the prices are often without tax on the price tags).
Inbetween the stores there were lots of restaurants, but I didn’t take any pictures of those. For example, we also went to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant like in Tokyo.

「walvis」はオランダ語！意味は「クジラ」。

We came across the Dutch word “walvis” on the streets in Nagasaki, which means “whale”.

オランダ坂！温度があつすぎてから、上に歩かなかった。
Nederland-helling! Maar omdat het veel te warm was, zijn we niet helemaal naar boven gelopen.
Dutch slope! But because the weather was too warm, we didn’t walk up.

日本旅行：長崎で食べる／Japanreis: Eten in Nagasaki / Japan trip: Eating in Nagasaki

ホステルの近くでとても美味しいぶたまんが買えた！「利華園」と言う中国人の手作りのお店です。毎日ここでぶたまんを買いに行った。ぶたまんに豚肉とにんにくが入ってあった。
お店の人も「ナガサチ」（長崎）と「トウチョウ」（東京）って言った。始めて聞いたときに、私は「ナガサチって何？」と思ったけど、「東京」・「トウチョウ」に聞いてから分かった。面白い！中国語で「キ」と「キョ」が日本語と違うかな？

Vlakbij ons hostel in Nagasaki zat een klein winkeltje, “Rikaen”, waar we elke dag gevulde broodjes hebben gehaald! Het werd gerund door twee Chinezen die alles zelf maakten. In de broodjes zat varkensvlees en knoflook. Hun site is echter alleen Japans.
De Chinese man die broodjes stond te maken en verkopen, zei “Nagasachi” (Nagasatsjie) en “Tocho” (Totsjo). Ik wist eerst niet wat het betekende, maar toen ik op een gegeven moment “Tokyo” zei en hij “Tocho”, snapte ik het wel 😛 Ik vroeg me toen wel af of de k-klank in het Chinees meer op een “tsj” lijkt of iets dergelijks, of alleen in zijn Chinese dialect misschien.

Rikaen (Nagasaki)

Near our hostel in Nagasaki there was a small shop, “Rikaen”, where we bought steamed buns each day! They were made by two Chinese people who made everything themselves. The buns were filled with pork and garlic. They do have a website, but it’s only in Japanese.
The Chinese man who was making and selling the buns, said “Nagasachi” and “Tocho”. At first I didn’t know what those words meant, but at one point I said “Tokyo” and he said “Tocho”, so I understood 😛 Then I did wonder whether the k-sound in Chinese sounds more like a “ch”, or if that’s just in his Chinese dialect.

この前は東京、箱根、と広島で泊まった。
次は長崎のホステルで泊まった。
「あかり」と言うホステルに決めた。簡単に見つけた！
部屋は4階であった。でも、階段だけがあった。階段登れない人はここで泊まれないと思う。
長崎の色んな所の割引クーポンを貰った。出島の割引を使った（^-^）
そしてこんな便利な地図も貰った。

Hiervoor zaten we in hostels in Tokyo, Hakone en Hiroshima.
Onze volgende bestemming was Nagasaki. Daar verbleven we in het “AKARI” hostel. Het hostel was gemakkelijk te vinden (de routebeschrijving van de site was heel duidelijk). Ze hebben wel een Nederlandse site, maar de werknemers die wij daar tegenkwamen, spraken geen Nederlands.
Onze kamer was op de derde verdieping (4e verdieping volgens het Japanse systeem) en er waren geen liften, dus als je geen trap kunt lopen, kun je hier waarschijnlijk beter niet naartoe gaan.
We kregen ook kortingsbonnen voor diverse dingen in Nagasaki. Die voor Dejima hebben we gebruikt 🙂
Verder kregen we ook nog deze handige kaart van Nagasaki.

Before this, we stayed in hostels in Tokyo, Hakone and Hiroshima.
Our next destination was Nagasaki. There we had reserved a room in “AKARI” hostel. It was very easy to find (the directions on their website were quite clear).
Our room was on the third floor (which is the 4th floor in the Japanese system) and they didn’t have elevators, so it’s probably not very wise to reserve a room here if you can’t walk up stairs.
We also got discount coupons for various attractions in Nagasaki. We used the one for Dejima 🙂
